UNC Basketball alumni Cam Johnson is reportedly on the move to a new team after a massive trade in the NBA last night.

UNC Basketball alumni Cam Johnson will soon be playing for a brand new team.

In a late-night blockbuster trade, Johnson was included in a package of players that included Jae Crowder, Mikal Bridges, and four unprotected first-round picks. The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

In a trade that will shift the balance of power in the Western Conference, Kevin Durant and TJ Warren are headed to the Phoenix Suns. This is a surprising move and indicates that the Suns are clearly going for it all this season.

Johnson has had quite a season. Named a starter at the beginning of the season he was off to his best start. A knee injury kept him out of 37 games. He returned to action two weeks ago, ironically enough, against his new team, the Brooklyn Nets.

On the season Johnson is averaging 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and is shooting 47.4% from the floor. Statistically, he is having his best season. Just as he was in Chapel Hill, Johnson was a favorite of fans in Phoenix. His statistics and averages have gone up every season. Who can forget the reaction of former teammate Coby White on draft day.

The Nets are in a complete house-cleaning mode ahead of the trading dealing today. Earlier in the week they traded star point guard Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks. The trade and new location could give Johnson even more opportunity to continue to shine.

Brooklyn currently sits number 5 overall in the Eastern Conference with a record of 35-22. It will be interesting to see how they finish the season after a flurry of trades and with all the new players they have received.
