UNC Baseball: Tar Heels Open Season on February 17th
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Baseball officially opens its season on February 17th with a three-game series in Chapel Hill versus the Seton Hall Pirates.
It is hard to believe but we are just weeks away from the UNC Baseball team opening its season in Chapel Hill. The Diamond Heels have been ranked No. 17 in the Baseball America Preseason Poll. That is not the only poll where the Heels are getting recognition. From GoHeels.com:
"In addition to today’s poll, the Diamond Heels have been ranked No. 11 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 12 by DI Baseball and No. 13 by Perfect Game. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the USA Today Coaches poll have not yet been released."
Last season the Heels finished 42-22. Another successful season included the ACC and NCAA Regional Championship. North Carolina returns 17 lettermen. Vance Honeycutt, Mac Horvath, and Alberto Osuna were their top three home runs hitters and run producers. The offensive punch should help this team achieve the preseason rankings that they are receiving.
The Diamond Heels have been hard at work preparing for the new season. They recently wrapped up their first week of Navy versus Blue scrimmages in Chapel Hill.
A recent video from Head Coach Scott Forbes on the Carolina Baseball Twitter account said it best. The players are what makes Carolina baseball special. This video will get you hyped for what is ahead.
Some of the first signs of spring in Chapel Hill are the UNC Basketball team pushing toward the NCAA tournament and the Diamond Heels opening another season. Keep it here for updates, stories, news, and more as UNC Baseball kicks off another winning campaign.
