UNC Football: Brand New Players Lounge at Kenan Stadium
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Football introduced a brand new players lounge at Kenan Stadium as a part of the 15 million dollar Kenan Stadium updates.
The competition for players, transfers and recruits continues to evolve. To keep up with the other potential teams, the Tar Heels have to have the amenities that players are looking for. On January 9th, Coach Brown let the players see their brand-new players lounge. From the UNC Football Twitter Account.
Some of the highlights from the new lounge are a barber shop, basketball goal, DJ setup, massage chairs, ping pong tables, and a billiards table. The project has been funded by the gifts raised by the Rams Club, officially referred to as the Educational Foundation at UNC.
Coach Brown continues to make improvements to all of the areas that are important to the players. There is no question that he understands that this is the competitive world of college sports now. From impressing potential high school recruits to convincing transfers to join the Tar Heels, these things all matter.
Of the other improvements, they are listed by Inside Carolina on their website.
"The new players lounge is just one feature of the $15 million Kenan Stadium expansion project UNC’s Board of Trustees agreed upon last February. The plan impacts the locker room, weight room, training room, equipment room, study areas, coaches’ offices, and player meeting rooms."
Inside Carolina also listed a number of improvements that have already been made.
"The first change was a $5 million locker room and weight room renovation that was completed during the summer of 2019, installing 120 new lockers, expanding the room and giving it a more modern look. The weight room added nine new racks, which allows the entire team to lift together and it increased the size of the room. Though at the time he alluded to the need to expand the area in the near future.Brown also had the field switched from grass to synthetic turf, about a $2 million cost. This was all before his first season of his second tenure in Chapel Hill."
There is no question that the Tar Heels are keeping up in the facilities race. The question is can they compete on the field as well?
