UNC Basketball: Bacot and Love make Midseason Watch List

UNC Basketball players Armando Bacot and Caleb Love are among those named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has listed UNC Basketball players Armando Bacot and Caleb Love as a part of the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List. The official list was announced today on the USBWA website. It was also shared on the Carolina Basketball Twitter account.

From the USBWA’s website:

"Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the nation’s oldest award and the only one named after a former player.At the conclusion of the regular season, the entire USBWA membership will vote for the award. The winner of the award will be announced at the 2023 Men’s Final Four in Houston with the formal presentation to follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.All Division I players remain eligible for the 2022-23 Oscar Robertson Trophy. The watch list merely spotlights the top candidates, as selected by the USBWA board."

Bacot continues to be listed on a number of watch lists and receives awards in his final year for the Tar Heels. The pre-season ACC player of the year candidate has not disappointed, averaging 17.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 57.9 from the field. He continues to be the consistent force for the Tar Heels.

Love has had an interesting season. Returning to run it back one more time, Love has struggled with his shot. He remains confident and continues to work his way out of it, but his inconsistent shooting all season has been a storyline for the former pre-season No. 1 ranked Tar Heels. Despite the struggles, Love is averaging 16.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while only shooting 38.5% from the field.
