UNC Women’s Basketball looks to pick up road win against Virginia
By Drew Garrett
Following their huge win over No. 4 Notre Dame, the UNC women’s basketball program looks to continue their success on the road vs. Virginia
It was a great day to be a Tar Heel Sunday. North Carolina finally got their first win of 2023 and did it against a fantastic Notre Dame squad.
This Thursday, UNC will look to improve their win streak, as they take on the Virginia Cavaliers.
After a rough 2021-2022 season, the Cavaliers have turned things around in this year’s campaign. At 13-3, Virginia is looking to earn the respect as a top team in the ACC.
Thursday will not be easy for North Carolina, but a win here should be expected. Here is what they will need to do to pull off a road victory.
Key to Victory
The key to victory is still relatively the same for the Tar Heels.
Defensively, North Carolina was fantastic against the Irish, forcing 19 turnovers and 10 steals. A continuation of this success Thursday in Charlottesville will be big for UNC.
Rebounds will again be a big point of emphasis as the Cavaliers are one of the nation’s top rebounding teams.
If North Carolina can knock down their shots, and win the defensive battle, they should walk away with a win.
Something to Watch
After losing four close games in a row, the Tar Heels win against Notre Dame was huge. However, can they continue their success?
UNC is sitting at 1-3 in conference play. With a tough schedule ahead, they must start playing their best basketball as soon as possible.
It will be interesting to see if this win will translate for the rest of the season. We will get our first glimpse of that in Charlottesville Thursday.
Last Meeting
In their last meeting, the Tar Heels took care of business against the Cavaliers.
North Carolina defeated Virginia in Charlottesville by a score of 68-57. UNC improved to 22-5, while Virginia fell to 5-21.
Deja Kelly was the top performer for the Tar Heels, as she finished with 16 points.
The win continued UNC’s dominance over UVA, as they hold a 55-34 series record.
