UNC Women’s Basketball takes on Florida State in ACC Opener

Following a tough loss to Michigan, the UNC women’s basketball program is set to begin conference play against a red-hot Florida State team. 

The UNC women’s basketball program is set to begin its conference schedule Thursday when Florida State travels to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for an ACC showdown.

The Tar Heels are looking for a bounce-back win at home, following their loss to Michigan in the Jumpman Invitational.

North Carolina went down big early and failed to regain the lead, losing 76-68.

Despite this, the Tar Heels are still off to an impressive start to their 2022-2023 season.

Sitting at 9-2 and ranked No. 13 in the country, UNC has an already elite resume and many opportunities for improvement in the coming weeks.

This FSU squad won’t be an easy opponent, but North Carolina will have the chance to get a win. Here is what they will need to do.

Key To Victory

The biggest key for North Carolina will be to slow down Florida State’s offense.

The Seminoles’ offense is elite. They have yet to score under 70 points in a game this season and have broken the 100-point mark twice.

FSU can score on all three levels and is especially great from deep.

Slowing them down should be the number one priority for UNC as it takes away Florida State’s biggest strength.

Something to Watch

Ta’Niya Latson.

Latson is a freshman guard for the Seminoles who has had an unreal season thus far.

Latson averages 25 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game.

The freshman guard has been the clear offensive anchor for FSU this season. It is worth watching how North Carolina defends her and gameplan for her.

Last Meeting

In the 53rd meeting of these two programs, North Carolina has the upper hand with a 34-16 series record.

These two teams last met last February in Tallahassee, when the Tar Heels pulled out another victory over the Seminoles, 64-49.

Deja Kelly was dominant in this one, scoring 26 and leading UNC to a big ACC win.
