UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot named ACC Player of the Week
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Basketball senior Armando Bacot has been recognized for his efforts in Saturday’s 89-84 victory over Ohio State.
Armando Bacot continues to collect recognition and awards. Following his strong performances last week where he averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds he was recognized as the ACC Player of the Week. This will likely not be the last time that Bacot will receive this award this season.
It should be noted that Bacot picked up a foul very early in the first half of the game versus Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic. He sat out until around the 12 minute mark of that game. When he returned to the game, everything changed. The Tar Heels immediately began to get him the ball in the painted area and he responded.
Thanks to Bacot’s efforts, the Tar Heels were able to stay within striking distance in the first half. His rebounding defense and control of the paint allow UNC to make a comeback in the second half and ultimately win the game in overtime. He finished the game with 28 points and 15 rebounds.
Bacot also had 14 points and 11 rebounds in just 26 minutes in a blowout win versus Citadel on December 13th. Thanks to a full team effort, Bacot was able to rest a majority of the second half in that game after notching his UNC record 62nd double-double. He now has 63 double-doubles after the win versus Ohio State.
Many believe that this will be a season filled with awards and recognition for Bacot similar to the senior season of Tyler Hansbrough. Thanks to his continued development and length of stay at North Carolina, he will continue to achieve records and set new marks.
Bacot believes he is currently at “around 70%” full health. We can only imagine what he will do when he gets back to 100%.
