UNC Basketball: Random Observations – Georgia Tech Win
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Basketball got a much-needed win at home versus Georgia Tech to end their 4-game losing streak. Below are random observations from the game.
Welcome back to the lineup Armando Bacot.
Welcome back to contributing to the lineup RJ Davis.
Welcome home Tar Heels.
Though the game started a little slow and rough, the UNC basketball program found a gear and started to get some separation.
There appeared to be a greater sense of purpose at the defensive end of the floor. When Puff Johnson and Seth Trimble enter the game, they bring more action, intensity, and energy. It is clear to see why Coach Hubert Davis has moved them to the top of the rotation.
There was nearly a 6 minutes stretch to close the first half where Caleb Love was not on the floor. It will be interesting to see if that was just for this game or if Coach Davis is beginning to utilize his bench as a motivator.
It was great to see freshman Jalen Washington get a few minutes. Although the game was in hand, the future success of this team could largely be affected by the presence and playing time of Washington. Give him time. He’ll be very important come March.
Bacot looks to be playing through the pain at this point. Let’s hope this is not a lingering issue all season. While still not 100% healthy, he is still a walking double-double.
Senior Leaky Black continues to be an interesting situation for Coach Davis. With little to no contribution to the offense, his defense has to be what keeps him on the floor. The Tar Heels need him to return to the lockdown defense we saw last year.
UNC has a chance to continue to get back to pre-season expectations versus Citadel before facing a talented Ohio State team next week.
The Buckeyes will be coming off of a 9-day break.
