UNC Football: Week Twelve Schedule Report for 2022 Opponents
Find out where the teams on the UNC football schedule stand with one week remaining in the regular season.
Well, that was not fun.
The UNC football program had a rough weekend, as their six-game winning streak was ended at home by a struggling Georgia Tech squad.
Although this weekend’s loss has ended any slim hopes of UNC reaching the College Football Playoffs, the Heels still have plenty to play for over the next two weeks. An in-state sweep, ten-win season, ACC Title, and New Year’s Six Bowl game are all still on the table for Carolina.
We take a look at what is still on the table for Carolina’s 2022 opponents in this week’s schedule report.
NC State Wolfpack
The Wolfpack lost their second consecutive game on Saturday at Louisville.
It has been a disappointing season overall for a State team that has struggled to build momentum after the season-ending injury to QB Devin Leary.
After a frustrating year (and the comments made by UNC QB Drake Maye earlier this season), the ‘Pack would love nothing more than to beat the Tar Heels on their own field.
It should be a very physical and intense matchup between two angry rivals on Friday.
Result: 25-10 Loss @ Louisville (7-4, 3-4 in ACC)
Clemson Tigers (ACC Championship)
The Tigers played one of their best games of the year on Saturday, handling Miami with ease in Death Valley.
After Tennessee’s loss to South Carolina on Saturday night, Clemson suddenly has hopes to get back into the mix for the CFP.
The Tigers host those upset-minded Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon in what is always a heated rivalry matchup.
Result: 40-10 Win vs Miami (10-1, 8-0 in ACC)
Florida A&M Rattlers
The Rattlers won again on Saturday, closing the season out on a nine-game winning streak after an 0-2 start.
They were left out of the FCS Playoffs, ending their season.
Result: 41-20 Win vs Bethune-Cookman (9-2, 7-1 in SWAC)
Appalachian State Mountaineers
App State took care of Old Dominion in Boone on Saturday.
With the win, the Mountaineers became bowl eligible. They close out the regular season at Georgia Southern this weekend.
Result: 27-14 Win vs Old Dominion (6-5, 3-4 in Sun Belt)
Georgia State Panthers
Georgia State came up a two-point conversion short of overtime against James Madison and lost the game and their bowl eligibility hopes in the process.
They will close out their season at Marshall on Saturday.
Result: 42-40 Loss @ James Madison (4-7, 3-4 in Sun Belt)
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Irish destroyed Boston College this weekend, extending their winning streak to five games.
They have a huge game at Southern Cal on Saturday night, as they have an opportunity to end the Trojan’s CFP hopes.
Result: 44-0 Win vs Boston College (8-3)
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies ended their seven-game losing streak with a surprising one-point victory at Liberty on Saturday.
No decision has been made as to whether or not the Hokies’ game against Virginia this weekend will be played.
Result: 23-22 Win @ Liberty (3-8,1-6 in ACC)
Miami was dominated by Clemson on Saturday afternoon.
The ‘Canes have to defeat Pittsburgh at home this weekend to reach a bowl game. Missing the postseason would be a major disappointment for Mario Cristobal’s first year as Miami’s Head Coach.
Result: 40-10 Loss @ Clemson (5-6, 3-4 in ACC)
Duke Blue Devils
The Blue Devils came up just short of their eighth win in a thrilling game at Pitt.
They host Wake Forest in what should be an intriguing regular season finale this weekend.
Result: 28-26 Loss @ Pittsburgh (7-4, 4-3 in ACC)
Pitt beat Duke on Saturday, extending their win streak to three games after they lost to UNC in Chapel Hill.
The Panthers close out the regular season at Miami on Saturday. Then, they will await their bowl game destination.
Result: 28-26 Win vs Duke (7-4, 4-3 in ACC)
Virginia’s game vs Coastal Carolina was canceled as a result of the tragic events involving members of their football team. Our staff at Keeping It Heel extends our thoughts and prayers to those impacted by this tragedy.
Result: Game Canceled (3-7, 1-6 in ACC)
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake ended their three-game losing streak with a victory over Syracuse on Saturday night.
They travel to Durham for their regular season finale with Duke this weekend.
Result: 45-35 Win vs Syracuse (7-4, 3-4 in ACC)
