UNC Football: Tar Heels fall five-spots in latest AP Rankings
By Drew Garrett
The UNC football program has fallen in the AP rankings following their 21-17 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday evening.
After a brutal loss at home against Georgia Tech, the UNC football program fell in the latest AP poll. North Carolina is now ranked No.18 in the nation, dropping five spots from last week.
Coming into yesterday’s game, the Tar Heels were 9-1 and were starting to gain some national recognition. The team secured their spot in the ACC championship game, and Drake Maye had just entered himself into the Heisman trophy conversation.
However, Georgia Tech outplayed North Carolina and upset them on their home turf. The Yellow Jackets, who are now 5-6 on the year, shut down the Tar Heel offense in the second half and scored 21 unanswered to secure the victory.
North Carolina wasn’t the only team to drop in this week’s ranking, as some other major programs lost Saturday.
Tennessee’s playoff dreams were crushed when South Carolina defeated the Vols 63-38. Another SEC highly rated SEC school, Ole Miss, lost yesterday, as Arkansas blew won 42-27.
Tennessee fell to the No. 9 spot, and Ole Miss ended up at No. 20.
Although this was a tough loss for the UNC football program and the final blow to their College Football Playoff hopes, there is still plenty of time to bounce back.
North Carolina is back in action next Friday when NC State comes to town and will also still have a shot at the ACC title on December 3 against Clemson.
