UNC Football: Staff Picks Game Eleven: vs Georgia Tech
By Mark DeMott
The UNC football team will look to complete a sweep of the Coastal Division on Saturday against the Yellow Jackets.
The North Carolina Tar Heels have only won double-digit games in a season once this century. If the Heels can take care of business this Saturday against Georgia Tech, they will double that total.
After another come-from-behind win at Wake Forest last week, UNC is officially the ACC Coastal Division Champion and they have punched their ticket to Charlotte on December 3rd for a showdown with Clemson in the conference title game.
With the Coastal already clinched and the long-anticipated matchup with NC State next Friday, the Heels need to avoid a letdown in a trap game vs Georgia Tech this weekend. Will UNC be able to focus on the task at hand and keep its momentum going? Find out what our staff thinks below!

I’m going to keep this one short and sweet.
The Tar Heels should be able to capitalize in this one. Georgia Tech will be starting their third-string quarterback, as we could see North Carolina put together a convincing victory if the offense can remain hot (which it has been throughout the entire season).
Give me the UNC football program in a blowout.
Prediction: North Carolina 42, Georgia Tech 7

Bookended by an emotional victory last weekend to clinch the Coastal Division over Wake Forest and a huge rivalry game against NC State next Friday, this Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech fits the bill as a trap game.
Luckily for Carolina, I don’t think the Yellow Jackets present much of a trap. Without starting quarterback Jeff Sims, the Tech offense is one of the worst in the ACC. I’d expect Carolina to have one of their better defensive games of the season and contain them for the most part.
On the other side of the ball, Tech’s defense has been “OK”, but they haven’t played a team with the firepower that UNC presents offensively. They’ve allowed over 40 points against their toughest competition (Clemson, Ole Miss, and Florida State) and none of those teams have a quarterback-wide receiver combination as good as the Tar Heels. I expect Drake Maye and company to have another big day, continuing the quarterback’s recent Heisman Trophy hype.
If the Heels can focus on the task at hand and avoid looking ahead to the next two weeks, they should win this one comfortably.
Prediction: North Carolina 45, Georgia Tech 13

If there was ever a week where the Tar Heels could take a little bit of a deep breath, this is the week. Despite the issues on defense, Georgia Tech is not in the same class currently as the Tar Heels. Not on offense. Not on defense.
UNC is coming off another big road win last week and is now focused on the ACC Championship game. This one appears to be a game where they can get healthy. I look for the starters to get some rest before the end of the game.
Prediction: North Carolina 52, Georgia Tech 21
