By Mark DeMott
Find out how the teams on the UNC football schedule fared during their Week Eleven action below!
After another thrilling victory the North Carolina Tar Heels have officially clinched the Coastal Division Championship and will head to Charlotte on December 3rd for an ACC Title Game showdown with Clemson.
The Heels built an early lead and were able to defeat the Deacs behind another big game from Drake Maye and three huge fourth quarter stops from the defense.
There was also plenty of other exciting action around the country as we take a look at this week’s schedule report.
Up Next
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Jackets lost to Miami at home by three touchdowns on Saturday afternoon.
Starting quarterback Jeff Sims was out again, and it is uncertain if he will return for this week’s game in Chapel Hill.
Georgia Tech has yet to score thirty points on an FBS team all season, and if they don’t do it on Saturday they will most likely have trouble keeping up with Drake Maye and company.
The Jackets would have to pull off back-to-back stunning upsets against UNC and top-ranked Georgia to reach a bowl game.
Result: 35-14 Loss vs Miami (4-6, 3-4 in ACC)
Looking Ahead
NC State Wolfpack
NC State lost to Boston College at home as eighteen-point favorites on Saturday.
The ‘Pack allowed a game-winning touchdown pass (after a questionable pass interference penalty) in the final minute.
NC State has a tricky road game at Louisville next week before the Black Friday showdown in Chapel Hill.
Result: 21-20 Loss vs Boston College (7-3, 3-3 in ACC)
Clemson Tigers (ACC Championship)
With the victory over Wake, UNC officially clinched the Coastal Division and will face Clemson in the ACC Title Game on December 3rd.
The Tigers bounced back from last week’s upset loss at Notre Dame with a solid victory over Louisville.
Clemson stuck with quarterback DJ Uiagalelei and it paid off against the Cardinals.
They have home games against Miami and South Carolina to finish the regular season.
Result: 31-16 Win vs Louisville (9-1, 7-0 in ACC)
Looking Back
Florida A&M Rattlers
The Rattlers rattled off their eighth straight win against Alabama State this weekend.
They wrap up the regular season against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
Result: 21-14 Win @ Alabama State (8-2, 6-1 in SWAC)
Appalachian State Mountaineers
The Mountaineers came up short against Marshall to lose for the second consecutive week.
After an exciting start to the year, the ‘Neers have turned out to be pretty mediocre, currently holding a .500 record.
They still need to win one of their final two games to become bowl eligible.
Result: 28-21 Loss @ Marshall (5-5, 2-4 in Sun Belt)
Georgia State Panthers
The Panthers blew a fourth-quarter lead and lost a close one to UL Monroe this weekend.
They will have to win their last two games to reach the postseason.
Result: 31-28 Loss vs UL Monroe (4-6, 3-3 in Sun Belt)
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Irish picked up a victory over Navy to win their fourth straight and continue the momentum from last week’s upset over Clemson.
The Irish are ranked by the CFP committee, and UNC’s ugly loss to them is not embarrassing anymore.
Notre Dame has a huge showdown at Southern Cal in their season finale in two weeks.
Result: 35-32 Win vs Navy (7-3)
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies were held to just seven points in a loss to Duke on Saturday.
The defeat marks the seventh straight loss for VT, and they very well might be the worst team in the ACC.
They will look to get pick up their first win in two months against Liberty next week.
Result: 24-7 Loss @ Duke (2-8, 1-6 in ACC)
Miami Hurricanes
The ‘Canes bounced back from last week’s beatdown against FSU with a convincing victory over Georgia Tech.
They will travel to Death Valley to take on Clemson next week in a game where they will be heavy underdogs.
Miami still needs to beat either the Tigers or Pittsburgh to earn a spot in a bowl game.
Result: 35-14 Win @ Georgia Tech (5-5, 3-3 in ACC)
Duke Blue Devils
Mike Elko has done a great job in his first season at Duke, as the Blue Devils picked up their third consecutive victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday.
If Duke beats Pitt next weekend they will finish in second place in the Coastal Division.
Result: 24-7 Win vs Virginia Tech (7-3, 4-2 in ACC)
Pittsburgh Panthers
Pitt had an impressive all-around performance this weekend, dominating Virginia in Charlottesville.
The Panthers are bowl eligible and have winnable games against Duke and Miami to close the season.
Result: 37-7 Win @ Virginia (6-4, 3-3 in ACC)
Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong threw touchdown passes on his first two passes of Saturday’s game against Pitt. The issue was that both of those passes were picked off by Panthers and returned for “Pick-6’s”.
UVA plays a Coastal Carolina team that has just one loss and is ranked in the AP Poll next week.
After that, the Cavaliers wrap up the season at Virginia Tech in the battle of the two worst teams in the ACC.
Result: 37-7 Loss vs Pittsburgh (3-7, 1-6 in ACC)
