UNC women’s basketball is back, as they return to action Wednesday night to face off vs. the Jackson State Tigers.

UNC Women’s Basketball is back.

The Tar Heels begin their 2022-2023 season tonight at Carmichael Arena, where they will take on the Jackson State Tigers.

After being eliminated by the eventual National Champions, The Tar Heels have a chip on their shoulder heading into this season.

Although the Tigers may pose some problems, the No. 12-ranked Tar Heels look to begin their 2022 campaign with a victory.

Key To Victory

North Carolina has the advantage in this one.

The Tar Heels are coming off a strong finish to the 2021-2022 season and are looking to continue that momentum.

With four starters from last year’s team back in the mix, head coach Courtney Banghart has ample talent and experience to work with.

While Jackson State won’t go without a fight, they seemed to be outmatched in this one. The Tigers finished 23-7 last season, but 0-6 to Power 5 opponents.

However, Daja Woodard and Miya Crump will look to cause problems for UNC, as both have received preseason all-conference awards in the SWAC.

North Carolina needs to key in on her and should look to score early. If the Heels can do that, they should be able to win this one with ease.

Something to Watch

There are plenty of storylines heading into this matchup.

North Carolina is returning the team’s four top scorers from last season. For a team looking to make another big postseason run, it is worth keeping an eye on how they look right out of the gate.

Tonight will give us an early glimpse of how Banghart plans to fill the final available starting spot. Eva Hodgson will likely get the first crack at earning the role.

Teonni Key and true freshman Paulina Paris could also make their UNC women’s basketball debuts this evening.
