Former UNC Basketball player Cam Johnson received confirmation that he has suffered a torn meniscus and will undergo surgery.

Current Phoenix Suns and former UNC Basketball player Cam Johnson received some disappointing news regarding his recent knee injury. Johnson has suffered a torn meniscus and will undergo surgery.

As spoked about yesterday on Keeping It Heel by Nick Delahanty, just days after putting up a career night for the Phoenix Suns, former UNC basketball standout Johnson suffered a knee injury versus the Portland Trail Blazers. The news was confirmed today by Bleacher Report on Twitter.

This news comes on the heels of Johnson adjusting and playing well in the starting lineup for the Suns. Prior to his injury on Friday, Johnson scored his career-high against the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 1st.

In the starting role this season, Johnson has averaged13 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game. There is no current timeline announced but it is believed that he will miss a significant amount of time.

Further complicating matters, Johnson will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season. The Suns can match any offer he receives in free agency.

Primarily the sixth man entering this season, Johnson has been worthy of the high draft pick in his three seasons with the Suns. In the sixth-man role with a very talented team, Johnson raised his average each season and finished last season at 12.5 points per game.

Johnson will now need to battle back to full health as well as for his role as not only a starter for the Suns, but to earn a new contract this offseason as well.
