Our 2022-2023 UNC basketball player preview series continues with Redshirt Senior Eva Hodgson of Rindge, New Hampshire.

Redshirt Senior Eva Hodgson began her career as a graduate transfer after playing two seasons at William and Mary. She has completed her undergraduate degree in business analytics and is currently enrolled in the MBA Program at Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Hodgson was the first player off the bench last season and essentially played starter minutes.

2021-2022 Season In Review

Hodgson played a key role for the Tar Heels last season playing an average of 25 minutes per game. She appeared in 31 of the 32 games last season. She ranked fourth on the team in scoring at 9.1 ppg.

If there is a player on the team that can do whatever is needed for the team at the time, it is Hodgson. She scored her 1,000th career point against James Madison. She averaged 35.5% from the three-point line, 84.6% from the free throw line, 2.4 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game.

What to expect in 2022-2023

Hodgson is in her fifth year of playing college basketball. Her experience and leadership will again be key for the Tar Heels as they look to advance this season. She plays with confidence from the experience she has gained.

Until they take the floor, we won’t know the direction that Coach Courtney Banghart will go with filling the starting lineup, but one could assume that Hodgson would be a natural move to replace Carlie Littlefield. There is no question that, no matter her role, Hodgson will bring her energy, toughness, experience, and talent to the team each night.

Bold Prediction

My bold prediction is that Hodgson will play a huge role with the team this season. I would assume that will be in a starter role, but if not, I know that she will contribute in a sixth-player role. Her experience and leadership play a key role for the Tar Heels and I predict that will be even more important this season.
