UNC Basketball: Malu Tshitenge working towards strong senior season
By Drew Garrett
Our 2022-2023 UNC basketball player preview series continues with senior forward Malu Tshitenge from Germantown, Maryland.
Senior Malu Tshitenge has had a great three seasons with the UNC women’s basketball program. The 6-foot-3 forward from Germantown, Maryland has helped the Tar Heels improve each year.
After a run to the Sweet Sixteen last season, can Malu continue to help this squad reach new heights?
2021-2022 Season In Review
Malu Tshitenge has been a consistent piece for the Tar Heels in her three seasons at Chapel Hill. In her freshman season, Malu started all 30 games, and in her sophomore season, she started 11.
Despite not starting in her junior season, the Washington DC native still made her presence felt on the floor. In just under 10 minutes a game, Tshitenge averaged 2.2 points and 1.9 rebounds.
Her best performance last season came on December 5 against James Madison. Malu posted 8 points and 6 rebounds, while also blocking two shots.
What to expect in 2022-2023
Entering her final season at UNC, Malu Tshitenge is looking to finish her career on a positive note.
The former 5-star helped North Carolina reach the NCAA tournament the last two seasons, including last year when the Tar Heels advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
Tshitenge will look to make an impact on both sides of the ball for UNC, hoping to replicate their previous tournament success and help reach new heights.
Bold Prediction
I predict Malu Tshitenge will be a valuable piece for UNC this season. Malu’s experience from playing all four years can be very valuable for this team. Although she may not put up big stats, Malu Tshitenge can make her presence felt in her Senior year.
