UNC Basketball: 2022-2023 Player Preview Destiny Adams
By Aaron Conrad
Our 2022-2023 UNC basketball player preview series continues with sophomore guard/forward Destiny Adams of Manchester, New Jersey.
Destiny Adams can score the basketball. With another year under her belt, she will likely score the basketball a lot this season. The 6-3 sophomore guard/forward from Manchester, New Jersey looks to continue to build on her freshman season.
2021-22 Season In Review
For the 2021-2022 season, Adams was close to double-digit minutes a game (8.3), 3.0 points per game, and 2.6 rebounds. I expect each of those to continue growing this season as she is trusted more. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 10 minutes per game, 5 points per game, 5 rebounds per game.
She played in almost every game last year, so she knows the system well. Adams was a key to sparking the comeback in the game at Boston College which was the highlight of the season.
What to Expect in 2022-23
A great hybrid 3/4. Super athletic. Has a lot of the skills you need in the modern basketball game – can handle the ball, finishes at the rim, is able to capably defend all 5 positions, can step out to the 3 but still developing there. As with most players that play in the Carolina system, there is an expectation the jump in every category year over year. The game slows down a bit. That expectation applies to Adams as well.
Bold Prediction
I predict that Adams will have a big 2022-2023 season. Depending on the minutes, I would look for her to have key contributions in several categories off of the bench. There is a lot of talent on this team but with the “sophomore jump” and the game coming a little bit easier, Adams looks to have a special season.
