The UNC basketball team has been voted as the favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference by the media.

Just one day after the UNC Basketball program earned its first AP Preseason No. 1 ranking since 2015, the Tar Heels have been voted to finish first in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Preseason ACC Media Poll was announced this evening, and North Carolina came out on top.  The Heels received 90 out of 101 first-place votes, with Duke, Virginia, Miami, and Virginia Tech splitting the other eleven.

Rounding out the top five behind UNC is Duke, Virginia, Miami, and Florida State in that order.  Other in-state foes Wake Forest and NC State come in at 9th and 10th respectively.  Georgia Tech was picked to finish last in the conference.

The entire poll is as follows:

When it comes to UNC’s schedule, the Tar Heels will face three teams in the top half of the poll twice (Duke, Virginia, and Notre Dame).  They will also have challenging road games against Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse all three of whom are expected to contend for a spot in the top half of the league.

Carolina has home games against six of the seven lowest-ranked teams in the poll (all except Louisville), although NC State, Pittsburgh, and Wake Forest will host the Heels as well.

With four out of five starters returning from a team that was three points shy of a national championship, it is no surprise that UNC is the media’s pick to win the league.  Carolina will look to block out the noise and handle their business again this season, starting on November 7th against UNCW in the Smith Center.
