UNC Football Program Offers Three Top Prospects
By Drew Garrett
In the last week, UNC Football offered three student-athletes in both the class of 2023 and the class of 2024.
UNC Football had a busy week of recruiting last week as three top prospects were offered scholarships. The Tar Heels offered 2024 athlete DeMello Jones, 2023 quarterback Brandyn Hillman, and 2023 athlete Aziah Johnson.
DeMello Jones is a 6-foot-1, 176-pound athlete from Swainsboro, GA. He has taken reps at running back and wide receiver for Swainsboro High School.
Recently DeMello’s teammate, Ty Adams, flipped his commitment from East Carolina to UNC. As DeMello makes his decision soon, this is something to keep an eye on.
Brandyn Hillman is a 6-foot-1, 191-pound quarterback from Portsmouth, VA. As a junior at Churchland High School, Hillman finished with over 1000 yards passing, 1000 yards rushing, and 30 total touchdowns.
Brandyn Hillman has drawn interest from various power 5 schools. Notre Dame, Boston College, and Kentucky have extended the three-star an offer.
Aziah Johnson is a polarizing prospect. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete from Richmond has garnered many D1 offers in the last week alone. This includes offers from North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and East Carolina.
Johnson has had a successful 2022 season thus far, as he has led Thomas Jefferson High School to a perfect 6-0 start.
These recruits could potentially round out a loaded 2023 class. The UNC football program currently has the No. #23 class in the nation, which includes seven four-stars prospects.
A pickup of any of these players would greatly benefit the Tar Heels. As we move closer to signing day in February, we could see a decision from all three of these players very soon.
