The most recent version of the preseason CBS Sports’ Top 25 and 1 has the UNC Basketball program ranked as the number two team behind Gonzaga.

Throughout the summer and into early fall, most of the preseason polls have had the Tar Heels ranked number one. The latest update to the CBS Sports Top 25 and 1 poll has Gonzaga ahead of the UNC basketball program. You can find the full poll in this article by Isaac Trotter on 247sports.com.

"North Carolina will have a real sense of continuity next year thanks to the return of Hubert Davis, Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Leaky Black, Puff Johnson and others. But North Carolina’s additions look like perfect fits. Northwestern forward Pete Nance is a toolsy, athletic big man who can be an elite role player. Prized freshman Seth Trimble might be too good to keep off the floor. North Carolina heads into 2022-23 with a ton of momentum."

There is no question that the Tar Heels have been high on every list since getting the commitment from their core team to return for another year. The additions of recruits and the transfer of Pete Nance have only made those expectations even higher. We will get our first preview of the team at the “Live with Carolina Basketball” event on Friday, October 7th.

Other notable ACC teams in the poll include Duke at number five and Virginia at number sixteen. Last year’s national champion Kansas comes in at number 8. Fellow blue blood programs Kentucky (number four) and UCLA (number ten) also made the poll.

It is interesting to see how fans approach these polls. Some fans like to have their team at number one going into the season. Some fans would rather they not be in that number one spot to avoid the pre-season pressure. One thing is for sure, the Tar Heels and their fans have big expectations this season.
