The UNC football team’s freshman quarterback has taken the country by storm during the first month of the season.

While the defense has been a major issue throughout the first month of the UNC football season, the offense has done its part to give the Heels a chance to win each game.

One man who has had a huge role in this is redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Maye.  The Huntersville, NC native has burst onto the scene with his strong arm, athletic ability, and maturity which is rare for a young quarterback.

Maye put up huge numbers in September, throwing for 1,231 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just 1 interception.  With statistics like these, it is hard to deny that the Tar Heels’ signal-caller has been one of the best in the entire nation to this point.

One major media outlet has recognized the work Maye has been doing, as CBS Sports released their weekly quarterback power rankings yesterday, and Maye was third on the list.

According to these power rankings, Maye is currently the top quarterback in the ACC.  This list features only two QBs above Maye, CJ Stroud and Bryce Young, who lead two of the top teams in the nation in Ohio State and Alabama.  Most college football experts have Stroud and Young as the top two candidates for the Heisman Trophy, making it even more impressive that Maye is only behind that duo.

Hopefully, Drake Maye can continue to shine in October, starting with this weekend’s conference opener against Virginia Tech.
