UNC Football: Kicker Nicky Sodano Joins the Tar Heels
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Football did not waste much time in adding another kicker to their roster. Nicky Sodano made the announcement today via his Twitter account.
What a week for the UNC Football special teams.
On Monday, head coach Mack Brown made the announcement that kicker Jonathan Kim left the team. Kim intends to enter the transfer portal. Mack’s official statement was as follows (courtesy of Adam Smith of Inside Carolina):
"“We did have a surprise yesterday. Jonathan Kim came in and said he wanted to be the starting field goal kicker and he’s not because Noah Burnett has done a real good job. And Jonathan wants to transfer so he has a chance to kick somewhere else. So we’ll let Noah Burnette do our kickoffs."
Based on that update from coach Brown, it would appear that Burnette will handle the kickoffs moving forward. The story did take another turn today as Nicky Sodano announced on Twitter that he has joined the Tar Heels.
So what do we know about Nicky Sodano? Sodano is a freshman this year and a graduate of. Carmel High School in New York. He was a 4.5-star kicker in high school and ranked as the number 19 kicker (NKR). He was the President of his class and a member of the National Honor Society. We also found this video of Sodano on YouTube.
From what we can tell, an opportunity opened up and Sodano was ready to take it. This is a developing story so keep it here for more information. We will post any updates as they become available.
