The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to a 1-2 start and conversations are beginning that former UNC Football quarterback Mitchell Trubisky might be replaced.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for 18 seasons. Replacing Roethlisberger was never going to be easy and Mitchell Trubisky is finding that out.

Through the Steelers’ first three games, Trubisky has thrown for 569 yards (9th), 2 touchdowns (tied-18th), 1 interception (tied-4th) and has a QBR of 43.8 (19th).

Pittsburgh played in an instant classic in week one versus the Cincinnati Bengals. In that game, Trubisky led his team to an overtime victory by completing 21 passes on 38 attempts for 194 yards. He finished the game with a 41.1 QBR.

Week two had the Steelers at home versus the New England Patriots. Trubisky again completed 21 passes on 33 attempts for 168 yards. The Steelers lost the game 17-14 and Trubisky saw his lowest QBR of the season at 35.1.

At the beginning of the season, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin named Trubisky the starter over Mason Rudolph and former Pittsburgh Panther Kenny Pickett. While Randolph is currently listed as the QB2, the conversation centers around Pickett.

Despite the noise, Trubisky had his best half of football Thursday night versus the Cleveland Browns. His Steelers led the Browns at halftime 14-13. In the second half of the game, there were several missed opportunities, and the Browns won the game 29-17.  Trubisky finished the game completing 20 of 32 passes for 207 yards and with a 57.4 QBR.

The media and fans continue to question if it is time to hand the position to Pickett. The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner (2021) and the local product was drafted 20th overall by the Steelers in the first round of the 2022 draft.

We will continue to watch where the Steelers go from here, but it might not be long before the organization decides that it’s time for a change.
