Since 2017, the UNC football program has had five wide receivers selected in the NFL Draft, with more to come from the Tar Heels’ current roster.

The wide receiver position has been a point of emphasis and place for success for the UNC football program, as evidenced by the recent draft picks, the emergence of Josh Downs, and the addition of future stars such as Andre Greene Jr. and Kobe Paysour.

With the Tar Heels currently on one of two bye weeks this season, the UNC football recruiting staff is looking ahead to their future at the wideout position.

On Friday, North Carolina extended an offer to the No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2024, Jeremiah Smith. The Opa Locka, Florida native is a five-star prospect and the No. 10 overall recruit in the junior class.

Smith has garnered attention and interest from a plethora of Power 5 programs, having visited Ohio State to begin the month of September.

The Chaminade-Madonna Prep product is the seventh wideout to receive an offer from North Carolina in the Class of 2024, with the Tar Heels still seeking their first commit at the position.

Four Crystal Ball predictions have been submitted regarding the recruitment of Smith, including 247 Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong’s forecast on September 5th. As it stands, the Ohio State Buckeyes are the recipient of the predictions, leaving the Tar Heels will ground to make up for his services.

With Josh Downs missing two of the season’s first three games, the wide receiver room has stepped up for North Carolina, proving their ability to recruit talent at the skill position.

Can the UNC football staff continue its development and recruitment of receivers by adding the nation’s No. 1 wideout into the mix?
