How to watch UNC Tar Heels football in 2022
At long last, college football is nearly back. Here’s how to watch UNC Tar Heels football throughout the 2022 season.
Go Heels! Football is almost back – which means we finally have our Saturday rituals back. Here’s how to watch UNC Tar Heels football in 2022.
UNC Tar Heels 2022 Outlook
The good news is that Mack Brown revitalized recruiting in Chapel Hill. The bad news is that hasn’t entirely translated… at least not yet.
The Tar Heels are 21-17 under Brown, including 1-2 in bowl games. However, following the traditional four-year plan for college coaches, this should be the year things start turning around. Brown’s first two sets of recruits should be upperclassmen and there’s plenty of potential on the roster.
Jacolby Criswell and Drake Maye will compete to replace Sam Howell. Both were highly-rated recruits, but neither was the de-facto backup a season ago. We might see the Heels use both regularly in 2022.
In the backfield, things get real messy. It’s a good problem to have, but UNC has five or six guys for three spots. How those break down is anyone’s guess, but it seems like British Brooks will be the lead back to start the season (although don’t expect a bell cow situation in Chapel Hill).
Defensively, things will need to improve. That’s why Brown brought back Gene Chizik as ‘Assistant Head Coach for Defense.’ Chizik’s got the defense on the right track in Chapel Hill before and has a National Championship to his name. So we’ll see how round two goes.
UNC Football Schedule 2022
Currently, four games are locked into a time slot or TV network. They are:
Saturday, August 27: vs Florida A&M (8:15PM ET, ACC Network)
Saturday, September 3: at Appalachian State (12PM ET, ESPNU)
Saturday, September 10: at Georgia State (12PM ET, ESPNU)
Friday, November 25: vs NC State (12PM, 1PM or 3:30PM ET, ABC or ESPN)
Overall, the Heels should start the year 3-0 before hitting their bye week. That comes at a good time, as the following week they host Notre Dame. They also travel to Miami and Duke, while hosting Pitt and NC State in the second half.
