UNC Basketball: Blue Ribbon Names Bacot Preseason All-American
By Mark DeMott
Armando Bacot, a star for the UNC basketball program, has high expectations for his senior season in Chapel Hill.
Another day, another preseason honor for UNC basketball senior big man Armando Bacot. This time, it is Blue Ribbon announcing that the Richmond, Virginia native is part of their Preseason All-American First-Team.
As part of this honor, Bacot will be featured in this year’s edition of the “Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.”
Four of the five players that earned this honor are returning big men who have already had outstanding college careers. Gonzaga’s Drew Timme, Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe, and Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis join Bacot as experienced big men who elected to return to school rather than enter the NBA Draft. Houston guard Marcus Sasser rounds out the squad.
Most “Way-Too-Early Top 25s” have UNC, Kentucky, Gonzaga, and Houston in the top five of their rankings for next season. It is refreshing for college basketball fans to have some familiar stars coming back to school for some of the best teams in the country.
One other thing of note from this list is the fact that UNC will be traveling to Assembly Hall for a showdown with Indiana in the ACC/Big-Ten Challenge. The matchup between Bacot and Trayce Jackson-Davis will be must-see TV for fans of the sport.
After the season Bacot had last year it is no surprise that he has become one of the household names in college basketball. It would be a pretty safe bet to assume that this is far from the last All-American team he is included in this offseason.
