UNC Basketball: Could the Tar Heels land Bronny James?
- The question remains: is the UNC basketball program even involved in the sweepstakes for Bronny James, the No. 8 shooting guard in the class of 2023 and the No. 12 recruit in California?
The recruitment of Bronny James has heated up in recent weeks, with potential favorites being named for the 2023 guard. While schools such as Oregon, UCLA, and Ohio State have been linked to the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, one school has recently emerged among the top: none other than the University of North Carolina.
According to Bovada, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are the second-highest odds to land James, only trailing the aforementioned Oregon Ducks. North Carolina comes in at +350 odds to earn his commitment with the Ducks the leader at -200.

The Sierra Canyon standout is currently ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 49 rated prospect in the class of 2023, according to 247 Sports. James recently participated in the EYBL Peach Jam, recording a 28-point performance and following it up with an impressive 25-point, 10-rebound, and five-assist outing.
Currently, James is on an international trip with Sierra Canyon. On the trip, James has been filling up the box score, including a viral dunk against the U18 French Select team.
With LeBron James dismissing the report of Bronny heading to Eugune, the recruitment of the 6-foot-3 guard appears to be wide open. As it currently stands, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have one commitment for the class of 2023, five-star guard Simeon Wilcher.
Adding an explosive guard with the pedigree of one of the game’s greatest ever is certainly something to keep an eye on in Chapel Hill.
Can Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program earn the commitment from the son of the NBA legend, and are they even in the mix for his services to begin with?
Does Borvada know something we don’t know? We’ll have to wait to find out.
