UNC Basketball: Tar Heels Make Top Ten for Blanca Thomas
The UNC basketball target is one of the nation’s top recruits as a rising junior, as the best programs in the country battle for her commitment.
Following a successful season on the hardwood, Courtney Banghart and company look to build momentum on the recruiting trail. A Sweet 16 appearance and 25-win season seem to be doing just that for the Tar Heels.
The UNC basketball program received good news on Monday when 2024 post-player Blanca Thomas listed the Tar Heels among her finalists. Thomas narrowed her list down to ten schools, with the Tar Heels competing with the likes of NC State, South Carolina, Stanford, and Notre Dame.
According to espnW, Thomas is the No. 10 overall recruit and the No.1 ranked post in her class. The Charlotte, NC native has received over 30 Division I offers, becoming one of the most sought-after recruits as a rising junior.
Thomas attends Charlotte Catholic High School, where she helped lead the Cougars to a 28-3 record and an appearance in the 4A state semifinals as a sophomore. The five-star recruit stuffed the staff sheet, averaging 14.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks, all team-highs for the Cougars.
The UNC basketball program currently has three commitments in the class of 2023, setting up the Tar Heels with the potential of a very strong roster for the coming years.
As the nation’s top programs will battle for Thomas’ commitment, can Courtney Banghart keep the five-star recruit home?
