The four-star cornerback announced his commitment to UCF over the UNC football program, Wisconsin, and Nebraska this evening.

Braeden Marshall, a four-star cornerback out of Lake Mary, Florida, announced he will be attending the University of Central Florida to play his college ball.

Marshall picked UCF over the UNC football program, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.  He had previously announced his three finalists and UCF was not included, so this was a surprising announcement.

Marshall is listed by 247Sports as the 401st overall player and the 40th CB in the country.  Despite missing out on Marshall, Carolina’s 2023 class already includes corners Kaleb Cost and Tre Miller.  North Carolina cornerbacks coach Dre Bly has done a great job of bringing elite talent to his secondary during his time in Chapel Hill.

The Heels might have a lot of playing time for freshman defensive backs after next season with both Tony Grimes and Storm Duck being potential NFL Draft prospects.

The UNC football program currently has the 23rd-ranked class for 2023.  This is currently good for fourth-best in the ACC, behind Clemson, Miami, and Louisville.  This ranking would have likely rose if Marshall had picked the Tar Heels.

While the Tar Heels have had a lot of success on the recruiting trail, fans are eager to see those results translate into more success on the field.  Nonetheless, the Heels are still contending for high-level recruits, which can only help that cause.
