The UNC women’s basketball program has lofty expectations for 2022-2023, as Courtney Banghart enters her fourth season in Chapel Hill.

As the inaugural Jumpman Invitational will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina, the UNC women’s basketball program now knows who its opponent will be.

The Tar Heels will battle the Michigan Wolverines on December 20th at 7:00 pm at the Spectrum Center. Michigan becomes the second Big Ten opponent on the Tar Heels’ schedule, as Courtney Banghart’s squad will travel to Indiana to face the Hoosiers in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

North Carolina will play in the opening game of the invitational, with Oklahoma and Florida’s men’s programs squaring off in the second game of the doubleheader.

December’s matchup will mark the first contest against the Wolverines outside of Chapel Hill, as the two schools met for the first time in 1987.

With the Michigan women’s program having reached the past four NCAA Tournaments, the Wolverines will be a good test for a Tar Heel squad that reached the Sweet Sixteen and will be a top-25 team.

Similar to the UNC women’s basketball program, the men’s team will also be squaring off against Michigan in their opening round contest of the Jordan Invitational. As both programs look to bolster their NCAA Tournament resumes, two victories against the Wolverines would be beneficial in the long run, as both teams expect to be among the nation’s best this season.
