UNC Basketball Recruiting: Jarin Stevenson analyzes recruitment
The UNC basketball recruiting target and five-star forward has attracted a plethora of suitors, which could lead to a battle against rival programs.
Seaforth High School in Pittsboro, North Carolina has yet to have a graduating class, but the home of the Hawks already has a five-star recruit: Jarin Stevenson. The 6-foot-8 forward is rated the No. 14 overall recruit in the class of 2024 and the No. 1 recruit in the state of North Carolina.
Stevenson helped lead the Seaforth basketball program in their inaugural season, averaging 20.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game.
Heading into his junior season, Stevenson’s recruitment is heating up, in what appears to be a battle between ACC programs. The UNC basketball recruiting target holds offers from the Tar Heels, NC State, Virginia, Wake Forest, and Missouri.
With three unofficial visits under his belt, Stevenson has been to Raleigh, Charlottesville, and Chapel Hill.
As we reached June 15th, the date college coaches can contact rising juniors, Stevenson has received attention from Power 5 programs, one of which is North Carolina.
The Pittsboro native recently discussed his recruitment with On3.com, examining the UNC basketball program in the process.
"“The campus was very nice. We just went around. The feel is very campus-like, not too much city but it’s a great campus. Again, we met the coaching staff. They were very nice to me. They showed me around. We went on a golf cart, and it was all very nice. (UNC) is very prestigious. Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, and lots of NBA greats came from that school. It’s a great school and a great program.”"
Hubert Davis and Stevenson’s lead recruiter, Jeff Lebo, have a unique connection to the Stevenson family that may help the Tar Heels. Jarin’s mother, Nicole Walker Stevenson, played college basketball at North Carolina, winning three ACC titles between 1994-1998.
Living 20 minutes from campus, Stevenson has been able to visit the Dean E. Smith Center from middle school on, learning about the program before his recruitment even started.
As the Tar Heels begin their pursuit of talent in the class of 2024, Stevenson appears to be a top target for the UNC basketball recruiting staff.
