The UNC baseball team takes on the NC State Wolfpack on Sunday afternoon with the ACC Tournament Championship on the line.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are set to take on the NC State Wolfpack in the ACC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon following a late-season surge that’s seen them go from middling bubble team to one of the hottest squads in the nation.

That stretch includes a three-game sweep of Florida State and one of the most impressive conference tournament runs we’ve seen in recent history. In their three games leading up to Sunday’s decisive title game, the Tar Heels outscored their opponents by a combined score of 26-4. Now, they’re preparing for a rematch with crosstown rival NC State, a team that they took 2-of-3 games from the first week of May.

This is the Tar Heels’ 13th ACC Tournament Championship Game appearance in program history. They’re vying for their eighth title, having won seven of their previous 12 appearances. They’re arguably the hottest team in the country right now, having rolled off 14 victories in their past 16 games.

Now, at 37-19 on the season and squarely in the NCAA Tournament field, the Tar Heels are simply playing for seeding. It’s just a bonus that they could finish their conference portion of the season with a tournament title over one of their most bitter rivals.

The Tar Heels lead the all-time series against the Wolfpack 55-53. The 99th installment of the rivalry begins at noon EST and will be aired on ESPN2.
