UNC Basketball: Reggie Bullock performs well in Mavericks loss
Dallas Mavericks starting wing Reggie Bullock is the lone UNC basketball alumnus remaining in the 2022 NBA Playoffs.
Dissimilar to what he did in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday when he connected on just 4-of-12 shots for the game and 3-of-10 from long-range, Dallas Mavericks small forward Reggie Bullock came out hot in the first half of Friday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors.
Bullock knocked down multiple three-pointers in the face of All-NBA point guard Stephen Curry over the game’s first 24 minutes, a stretch in which the Mavericks dominated to the tune of a 72-58 halftime lead. He kept hitting shots in the second half, ringing up six total shots beyond the arc, tied with Curry for most in the game.

Bullock finished the game with 21 points on an efficient 6-for-11 shooting performance overall and 6-for-10 from downtown. His 21 points and six three-pointers were the most ever for him in a playoff game. The former Tar Heel also hit all three of his free throw attempts while gathering three rebounds and two assists in a game-high 44 minutes on the court.
As difficult as it might be to believe given that he’s playing alongside the likes of Luka Doncic, recently red-hot Jalen Brunson, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Curry, Bullock has played more minutes than anyone in the first two games of the series. Moreover, he’s played more minutes than anyone in the Eastern Conference Finals’ first two games, too, including Miami’s Jimmy Butler and Boston’s Jayson Tatum.
What’s particularly special about Bullock is his ability to play stout defense on one end while knocking down big shots on the other. It’s his two-way playing ability that has made him a mainstay in the Mavericks’ starting lineup and an invaluable piece of their roster.
If the Mavericks have any hope of turning this series around after going down 0-2, they’ll have to continue getting big minutes out of the sharpshooting Kinston native.
