UNC Basketball Recruiting: Rising 2025 prospect loves North Carolina

A rising prospect in the class of 2025 is hoping to become a UNC basketball recruiting target.

Just because he’s not yet old enough to drive a car doesn’t mean that Mikel Brown, Jr. isn’t a player to keep an eye on. That’s particularly true for the North Carolina Tar Heels, a team that the rising prospect from the class of 2025 is hoping to receive a scholarship offer from.

Brown said as much in a recent interview with 247Sports’ Travis Branham when he made clear that if the Tar Heels do emerge as a contender in his recruitment, they’ll likely be the prohibitive favorites.

"“I am a North Carolina fan so I love North Carolina and also UCLA but I’m open to any opportunity,” said Brown, who’s modeled much of his game off of NBA Hall-of-Famer Steve Nash."

And while Brown, a native of Orlando, Florida, and a freshman at Orlando Christian Prep, is still three years away from stepping foot onto a college basketball court, he’s already gaining traction on the recruiting trail. He’s holding a handful of offers, including ones from Auburn, Baylor, and Florida. And it won’t end there, as Brown will almost certainly bring in a number of high major offers over the next few years.

Brown stands just 5-feet-11-inches tall and comes in at a slender 140 pounds, but he’s got a lot of time to add to both his height and weight. He’s already being looked at as one of the premier backcourt players in his class, possessing a tremendous amount of skill and basketball I.Q.

He’s currently unranked across recruiting outlets — along with everyone from the 2025 class — but we can expect that the standout point guard will be near the top once rankings are compiled. We’ll continue to follow Brown’s recruitment in the months ahead and keep UNC fans apprised of any interaction he has with his apparent dream school.
