Hubert Davis has begun working on the UNC basketball recruiting class of 2024, sitting courtside to watch the top prospect in the nation.

Hubert Davis is hard at work on the class of 2023, having already received a commitment from five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher and hoping to get the same from Gregory “G.G.” Jackson, the No. 1-ranked player in the nation.

On Friday night, Davis got to watch both at the Nike EYBL event in Orlando, Florida, but he also dropped in on the top-ranked recruit in the 2024 class, Naasir Cunningham. A 6-foot-7, 180-pound small forward from West Orange, New Jersey, Cunningham is still just a sophomore at Gill St. Bernard’s but already holds a dozen Division I scholarship offers.

With early interest from the likes of Connecticut, Creighton, Duke, and UCLA, the Tar Heels will certainly have their work cut out for them and it’s not really difficult to see why.

Cunningham has all the tools to make him one of the nation’s best high school players regardless of class. He can score at all three levels, put the ball on the floor, distribute to his teammates, and create his own offense. He’s good at finishing in traffic and through contact. He’s a good rebounder and can throw down high-flying dunks with ease. Additionally, Cunningham has a real nose for the ball and a tendency to track down offensive rebounds for second-chance points.

Cunningham is the consensus No. 1 recruit in his class and he’s likely to add dozens of scholarship offers to the ones he already has. I expect nearly every high major program to get involved sooner or later and I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to wait the better part of two years for a commitment from him.

We’ll continue to follow Cunningham’s recruitment over the coming months, particularly as it pertains to the North Carolina Tar Heels, and keep fans apprised of any and all developments.
