UNC Basketball Recruiting: Latest G.G. Jackson intel favors North Carolina
The latest intel projects five-star big man Gregory “G.G.” Jackson to join the UNC basketball recruiting class of 2023.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are in the midst of one of the most impressive and improbable NCAA Tournament runs we’ve seen in recent years. No more than a bubble team with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Tar Heels eventually picked up some momentum toward the end of the season and earned an 8-seed in the big dance.
Then they rolled off five straight wins, eliminating No. 1 seed Baylor, No. 2 seed Duke, and No. 4 seed UCLA in the process. Now, just one day away from their first national title game appearance in five years and everything seemingly going in their way, they got some more good news on Sunday afternoon.
Gregory “G.G.” Jackson, the No. 1-ranked prospect in the class of 2023 according to both Rivals and On3 Sports, is now heavily favored to end up at North Carolina. Five of the six predictions in Jackson’s 247Sports Crystal Ball now favor the Tar Heels. Similarly, there’s an 82.1 percent probability according to On3 Sports that Jackson commits to UNC. The Duke Blue Devils no longer have a single prediction in Jackson’s Crystal Ball and hold just a 13.7 percent chance according to On3 Sports.
This is huge news for North Carolina, as they would be adding arguably the nation’s best player in the 2023 class to consensus five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher. With both Wilcher and Jackson in tow, the Tar Heels would almost certainly finish the 2023 recruiting cycle with a top-10 class at the absolute worst, with an opportunity to build on that over the coming year.
Jackson is thought to be close to a decision and there could be an announcement coming as soon as this week. We’ll stay close to his recruitment in the coming days and keep fans apprised of any developments leading up to his much-anticipated announcement.
