The three-man UNC basketball recruiting class of 2022 awaits the decision of four-star point guard London Johnson, who has the Tar Heels among his list of finalists and will announce it on Friday.

The North Carolina Tar Heels already have the nation’s No. 11 recruiting class for the 2022 cycle, and that would only be strengthened today with a commitment from four-star point guard London Johnson.

Johnson, a senior at Norcross High School (GA), has a list of finalists that includes Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, USC, and Virginia. Johnson’s recruitment has remained pretty quiet, so there aren’t a lot of predictions out there about where he’ll end up. He doesn’t have a single Crystal Ball prediction on 247Sports and just one Rivals Futurecast pick in favor of the Virginia Cavaliers.

A consensus top-50 prospect in his class, Johnson is a lead guard with great height and length, but remains quite slender in frame. He’s got a versatile skillset that features shot-making ability from all over the floor, tremendous court vision, and a high basketball I.Q. He’s a good ball-handler, passer, and finisher, and he’s got incredible upside, particularly once his currently thin build fills out.

Johnson had a terrific senior season that included being named to the Region 7AAAAAAA first team, the GACA all-state team, the Atlanta Tip-Off all-metro team, and the Gwinnett Tip-Off all-county team, as well as being tabbed as a Gatorade Player of the Year finalist in the state of Georgia.

My gut tells me that Johnson is headed to Virginia, but considering the way that North Carolina has played with a two-guard set this season and the possibility that sophomore point guard Caleb Love leaves school early for the NBA, the Tar Heels should still be considered a contender.

If he does, in fact, commit to the Tar Heels, Johnson will arrive on campus in the fall with a trio of top-100 recruits in point guard Seth Trimble, stretch big man Jalen Washington, and sharpshooter Tyler Nickel.

Johnson will be making his college commitment live on CBS Sports HQ at 3:30 p.m. EST, which can be viewed here.
