Another former North Carolina Tar Heel is set to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Following his playing career at North Carolina, Karl was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs where he played his entire five-year NBA career. He then began his coaching career as an assistant for the Spurs in 1978. His first head coaching gig came in 1980 for the Montana Golden Nuggets. Karl spent 36 years as a CBA and NBA head coach with the Golden Nuggets, Cavaliers, Warriors, SuperSonics, Bucks, Nuggets, and Kings.
He was the NBA Coach of the Year in 2013, which was his final season as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets. He was also a four-time NBA All-Star Game head coach (1994, 1996, 1998, 2010). Twice he was named the CBA Coach of the Year (1981, 1983), and he led his team to a FIBA Saporta Cup championship in 1992.
Karl remains an avid follower of the University of North Carolina, frequently posting his support of the Tar Heels on social media.
