UNC Basketball: Deja Kelly named All-America Honorable Mention
UNC women’s basketball standout Deja Kelly is being honored for her tremendous sophomore season.
North Carolina sophomore guard Deja Kelly has been named to the 2022 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America honorable mention team, adding to her sensational second season in Chapel Hill.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association made the announcement on Thursday, along with naming their 10-member All-American team, that Kelly and 41 other players — eight of which come from the Atlantic Coast Conference — earned honorable mention honors.
Kelly, a first-team All-ACC selection this season, averaged a team-high 16.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. She ranked fourth in the conference in scoring this season and first in free throw percentage at 85.8 percent.
She notched double-digit points in 28 of her 32 games this season and scored 20 or more points on eight occasions during the regular season. She then averaged 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists per game in three NCAA Tournament contests.
Kelly saw noticeable improvements from her freshman to sophomore seasons, including points per game, rebounds per game, shooting percentage, three-point percentage, and free throw percentage. She’ll undoubtedly begin her junior season as a popular pick for first-team All-ACC and All-American honors.
