A former UNC basketball player has entered the transfer portal for the second time in as many years.

Former North Carolina men’s basketball player Jeremiah Francis is once again heading to the transfer portal. It’s the second time for Francis in as many seasons, having left the University of North Carolina following the 2019-20 season and ending up with the New Mexico Lobos.

He just finished up his second season at New Mexico and will search for a change of scenery this offseason. It’s probably safe to assume that Francis’ latest transfer is a response to the decrease in playing time that he saw in year two with the Lobos.

After logging nearly 23 minutes per game in 21 appearances as a sophomore, Francis averaged less than eight minutes per game in just a dozen appearances this season. He also started just one game this season compared to 11 during the 2020-21 campaign. As a result, his averages of 6.4 points, 2.2 assists, and two rebounds per game dropped to just 1.7 points, 1.3 assists and 0.8 rebounds per game this season.

The now well-traveled Francis began his collegiate career as a three-star player out of Pickerington Central High School in Ohio. He averaged 3.3 points, 1.6 assists and 1.3 rebounds per game while shooting a career-low 22.7 percent from the floor in 12 appearances for the Tar Heels.
