UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot FINALLY getting national recognition
UNC basketball’s Armando Bacot is finally getting the national recognition he deserves.
North Carolina’s Armando Bacot was snubbed in Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year voting a couple of weeks ago and then he was completely overlooked by the Associated Press when it came time to select first, second, and third-team All-Americans.
Despite that, Bacot has continued to put up one double-double after another en route to a UNC-record 27 on the season. He also broke school records for games with double-digit rebounds (28) and total rebounds (438), and he’s not even done yet.
Apparently, somebody has finally noticed the incredible season that Bacot has put together because he was named a third-team All-American by USA TODAY on Monday. Joining Bacot on the third team is Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren, Baylor’s James Akinjo, UCLA’s Johnny Juzang, and Villanova’s Collin Gillespie.
The honor is a well-deserved one for Bacot, who along with being a double-double machine this season has averaged 16.4 points per game and shot the ball at a 58.8 percent clip. He’s also recorded career-highs in assists (1.5), blocks (1.7), steals (0.9), and free throw shooting (68.5 percent).
Bacot will look to add to his incredible junior season on Friday when the Tar Heels take the court against the UCLA Bruins in the Sweet 16.
