The UNC basketball program is heading into the final three games of the regular season needing some victories to boost their NCAA Tournament resume. More importantly, they need to avoid any bad losses to stay in the field.

On Saturday, UNC travels down the road to Raleigh to take on an NC State team that finds themselves at the bottom of the Atlantic Coast Conference this season. A loss on the road to the Wolfpack would be devasting for the Tar Heels and all but end their tournament hopes.

But for now, UNC is in the field of 68 per Joe Lunardi. It’s just that they are still on the bubble according to the ESPN bracketologist.

In his latest Bracketology, Lunardi has North Carolina as a number 11 seed in the South Region taking on No. 6 Iowa. The Tar Heels are one of Lunardi’s last four byes joining TCU, Michigan and Rutgers on that line. Behind them on the last four in line are Loyola-Chicago, San Francisco, Indiana and Memphis.

UNC is in okay shape right now and would be in better shape if they would have secured a win over Pitt at home a few weeks back. That loss hurt the Tar Heels’ resume, giving them a Quad 4 loss.

With one Quad 1 win, UNC can still earn another one if Michigan moves into the Top 30 in the NET rankings. The Wolverines have three ranked opponents left and beating one of them should move them up. While Michigan is on the same line as UNC, the Tar Heels need to root for the Wolverines to get that Quad 1 win moving forward.

Next. Leaky Black still uncertain about future with UNC. dark
