The recruitment for five-star forward G.G. Jackson rolls on here as we get into late February and following his latest visit, he could be ready to make a decision sooner than later. But where do thing stand for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program?

There’s no doubt that Jackson is the top recruiting target for the Tar Heels right now no matter the class. He’s been on UNC’s radar for months now and landing a prospect of his talent could be a program-changer for Davis and his staff.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound power forward has taken official visits to UNC, Georgetown, Duke and most recently South Carolina, getting a feel for each program while being on campus. But now, it appears as if the Tar Heels, Gamecocks and Blue Devils are set for a battle this Spring with no clear cut leader in sight.

Jackson and his father recently caught up with Jamie Shaw of On3 to talk about his recent visits and what stood out the most about the programs. Here is what they said about the most recent visit to Chapel Hill:

"GG Jackson: “It was a dream come true going there. What stuck out to me was everyone knew my name up there. Coach Hubert (Davis) stressed to everyone how much they needed me, and he showed me how much they needed me. He also showed me how they would use me, with in-game situations and how they were going to develop me.”Gregory Jackson, Sr. “It was above and beyond, a great atmosphere. To meet legendary Roy Williams and many former players were nice. They want to bring him in as a three/four and be one of their primary guys.”"

As the Tar Heels sit on the bubble for the 2022 NCAA Tournament, the future of the program has been in focus for fans. Davis will welcome in a four-man class with one of those recruits already on campus in Will Shaver but building for the future is key.

And Jackson would be a big part of that future.

Jackson was recently named the number one recruit in the updated Rivals rankings and his game has elevated to a whole new level here in his junior season. There’s no doubt that he has the type of talent to help get the program on track but the only question that remains is if UNC can beat out in-state South Carolina and arch-rival Duke. Stay tuned.
