Hubert Davis and his UNC basketball staff are in hot pursuit of five-star forward G.G. Jackson in the 2023 recruiting class. And it doesn’t look like things are slowing down anytime soon for the Tar Heels.

The South Carolina native is the top recruiting target on UNC’s board right now and he just might be their most important recruit in a long time. Jackson is a five-star player that recently climbed to the top of the updated Rivals recruiting rankings, taking the No. 1 spot.

Now, his recruitment appears to be picking up more steam with UNC, Duke, and South Carolina among the top teams involved. But where do things stand with the Tar Heels?

Fresh off his new No. 1 ranking, Jackson talked to Rivals.com reporter Travis Graf about the move up and his recruitment including where things are with the top programs involved. Jackson told Graf that things are “going great” with UNC, a good sign moving forward:

"“It’s going great with those guys. I’m always in contact with Coach (Hubert) Davis. He’s always giving me updates talking about what’s going on there. They have a lot of legacy and a lot of winning there. Obviously, the GOAT, Michael Jordan, went there, so you have some big shoes to fill if you go there. It’s definitely a winning atmosphere.”"

Jackson has been on North Carolina and Duke’s campuses over the past month and is set to take an official visit to South Carolina next weekend. These are the three teams that have been battling it out for the recruit and it could come down to a photo finish.

Right now, it does appear as if UNC is still the favorite in this recruitment and they have held the lead for months now. However, Duke and South Carolina have both impressed him lately but is it enough to really close the gap in this thing? Stay tuned.
