UNC Basketball: Harrison Barnes’ big game leads Kings to victory
Former UNC basketball standout Harrison Barnes put together one of his best performances of the season on Wednesday night, guiding his team to victory over the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves.
Sacramento Kings small forward Harrison Barnes led his team to victory on Wednesday night with a sensational 30-point, eight-rebound effort against the Minnesota Timberwolves, winning their third game in the last five after dropping seven in a row in the month of January.
The 21-36 Kings are still in last place but are now just 5.5 games back of the downward-spiraling Los Angeles Lakers, who can’t seem to win despite having both LeBron James and Anthony Davis back in the lineup.
In his impressive showing against the Timberwolves, Barnes connected on an outstanding 8-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-5 beyond the arc. He also converted all 10 of his free throw attempts and is now shooting just under 83 percent from the charity stripe this season. The former Tar Heel added three assists and just one turnover despite logging a team-high 36 minutes on the court.

It was just Barnes’ second 30-point outing of the season and his only since the Kings’ first game of the season back on October 20 (36 points). His free throw percentage was down a bit this season before hitting a sensational 40-of-44 from the line since the start of February. That’s just under 91 percent, by far his best month of the season to date. He’s also scorching the nets for a season-best 50 percent (11-for-22) from three-point range in the month of February.
Wednesday night’s game marked the first of the Domantas Sabonis era in Sacramento. Alongside Barnes, the former Indiana Pacers All-Star scored 22 points to go along with 14 rebounds and five assists.
Barnes is averaging 17.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season and shooting a career-best 41.2 percent from three.
