While the UNC basketball program tries to fight off being on the bubble here in February, the future of the program is also in the spotlight.

Forward G.G. Jackson is still North Carolina’s top recruiting target as a 2023 recruit but the Tar Heels are actively pursuing some big prospects in the 2024 class. So far, only one recruit has an offer in the 2024 class, that being Jarin Stevenson, but Hubert Davis and his staff have their eyes on a few others.

That includes small forward Ryan Jones out of Florida.

The 6-foot-8,  200-pound Jones only has two offers in his recruitment with Illinois and Ole Miss being those programs but he has a handful of others after him, including UNC. Last year, Jones took a visit to UNC as part a three-day trip to North Carolina where he also saw Duke and N.C. State.

Now, as his recruitment starts to pick up here, he discussed that visit to UNC with Joe Tipton of On3:

"North Carolina:  “It was great. The coaching staff was amazing. Every single coach came from North Carolina and played there. It was cool to see how the coaches mesh with the players. I got to see how they play their fours and their fives too. It was just great. Coach (Pat) Sullivan talks to me the most from UNC.”In December, Jones went back for a UNC game while in town for a basketball tournament.\"

Jones has also visited Florida and Florida State in his recruitment unofficially. With both programs being right there in his backyard essentially, they will likely be getting more visits down the line.

As for official visits, Jones hasn’t scheduled any just yet which isn’t surprising seeing that he is a 2024 prospect and has a lot of time left in his recruitment. It does appear as if UNC is a legit contender here in the race for Jones which is good news moving forward for the 2024 class.
