Former UNC basketball standout and current Orlando Magic point guard Cole Anthony will participate in the 2022 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Cole Anthony is having the best season of his young career and now he’s ready to showcase his abilities for the entire world to see on the NBA’s biggest stage.

He’ll get the opportunity to do just that during the league’s All-Star weekend next month, as NBA writer and insider Shams Charania confirmed via Twitter on Saturday afternoon that Anthony has committed to participate in the 2022 Slam Dunk Contest.

Anthony, who’s having the best all-around season we’ve seen from him since his senior season of high school at Oak Hill Academy, is definitely capable of throwing down some impressive dunks. He won the City of Palms Slam Dunk Contest in 2018, earning scores of 49 and 50 (perfect) in two of the event’s three rounds.

As of now, Anthony is the only confirmed contestant in this year’s Slam Dunk Contest. We’d love to see an exciting cast of young high-flyers join Anthony, as recent contests have left a lot to be desired. There’s widespread hope that Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant will be in the mix, and Charlotte Hornets standout Miles Bridges would be a terrific contestant, too. Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards is another fantastic dunker that fans would get a great show from.

No matter what the field ends up looking like, we’ll be tuned in and watching intently as Anthony gets out on the court and shows the world what he can do. If Anthony were to win the event, he’d be the first former Tar Heel to do so since Vince Carter in 2000.
