The offseason has been an active one so far for Mack Brown and his UNC football staff in terms of the transfer portal and recruiting. And it should continue to pick up as we storm into February.

While there haven’t been many surprises, there could be, and this article will provide a one-stop-shop to keep up with all the stuff happening in the early parts of the offseason.

It was a very disappointing season for the Tar Heels after they entered last year with high expectations. But now, they enter a 2022 offseason without a lot of pressure and has the chance to shock some if they can start out hot in 2022.

But before we get there, we have signing day, more transfer news and Spring practice to keep us occupied. With a busy offseason on tap, we decided to keep track of the roster moves for the Tar Heels.

Here you will find a UNC football tracker of players leaving, staying, arriving,  and going to the NFL Draft:

UNC football players in the transfer portal

  • LB Trevion Stevenson —
  • WR Stephen Gosnell — Virginia Tech
  • DB Trey Morrison — Oklahoma
  • LB Tyrone Hopper — Missouri
  • LB Eugene Asante — Auburn
  • WR Beau Corrales — SMU
  • DL Kristian Varner — Georgia Southern
  • WR Emery Simmons — Indiana
  • RB Josh Henderson — Indiana
  • DL Cylde Pinder Jr. — USF
  • WR Khafre Brown — USF
  • OL AJ Beatty — Albany

As you see above, UNC is losing a good amount to the transfer portal and it happened earlier than many expected. There are a few reasons for this but mainly it’s playing time. With the portal allowing players to be eligible right away, going to a spot where they best fit in terms of playing time is beneficial to a player and that’s why we are mainly seeing this exodus.

UNC football players declaring for the NFL

The Tar Heels had over 20 players participate in Senior Day this season, hinting that they are either leaving UNC for the draft or transferring. The biggest name? Quarterback Sam Howell who exits after three years with the program.

Players joining UNC from the transfer portal

  • LB Noah Taylor — Virginia
  • OL Corey Gaynor — Miami

Mack Brown and his staff have already landed two players in the transfer portal with the potential to land more. Keep an eye on the portal for more potential moves, especially on the offensive line.

Update December 27 — Virginia linebacker Noah Taylor is transferring to UNC after taking a visit to the program. He’s the second player to commit to UNC in this cycle.

Update December 17 — UNC is landing a big offensive lineman from the ACC as Corey Gaynor has committed.

Next. Javonte Williams named to All Rookie Team. dark
