This weekend will be an important one for a variety of reasons for the UNC Basketball program.

Not only do they need to get back on track and beat Wake Forest on the road Saturday night but there’s a recruiting visit that could have a big impact on a five-star recruiting target for the program in the 2023 class.

It’s no secret that five-star forward G.G. Jackson is North Carolina’s priority target right now no matter the class. The South Carolina native has been on UNC’s radar for months and has taken a few visits since he was offered by the program in 2021. At one point, UNC was considered the heavy favorites to land the Top 10 player and while they might be the favorites still, there are other programs trying to make a push.

Among them are the Duke Blue Devils. With two prospects already committed in 2023, Duke is hoping to continue to add and turn in another No. 1 class. And Jackson is a target that Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils are after.

This weekend will be a big one in Jackson’s recruitment as the prospect is set to be on Duke’s campus for an official visit. While Duke may not be the favorites right now, you can’t rule the Blue Devils out in any recruitment they are involved in and a good visit could change a few things in this recruitment.

So far, Jackson has taken official visits to UNC and Georgetown and has plans to head to South Carolina before his process is done as well. Jackson has taken unofficial to South Carolina, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke, and N.C. State in his recruitment.

With the visits on tap and the Spring approaches, a decision is likely coming soon for the talented recruit. Let’s just hope for UNC’s sake that this weekend’s visit doesn’t change things in his recruitment.

Next. UNC commits don't see much movement in rankings. dark
