UNC Basketball Recruiting: Analyst names Tar Heels’ commit as a standout

UNC basketball commit Simeon Wilcher is making a name for himself here in his junior year of high school and that’s a great thing for Hubert Davis and his staff.

Since pledging his commitment back in October with a video message at Late Night With Hubert Davis, Wilcher’s game has ascended as he’s made strides on the court as a player. The 2023 five-star recruit is a combo guard out of New Jersey that is catching attention from recruiting analysts across the country.

And the latest comes from the HoopHall event where 247Sports reporter Eric Bossi.

The analyst wrote on his standouts from the annual event which showcases the top high school basketball teams and players from across the country in Springfield. This year, while Wilcher didn’t put up monster numbers like he did a week ago, he caught the attention of Bossi from the event.

Here is what Bossi had to say on Wilcher and his loaded Roselle Catholic team:

"Currently ranked No. 18 overall in the class of 2023, Wilcher didn’t put up huge numbers or anything like that but he was very steady and played with poise against the face of constant pressing to finish with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists. At his core, Wilcher is a natural scorer of the basketball who is adding strength to his 6-foot-4’ish frame. He gets to his spots, is armed with a pretty dangerous pull-up jumper and makes enough threes to keep defenders on their toes about his deep jump shooting. This season he’s playing much more on the ball and is being tasked with more decision making than in the past and he looks to be adjusting to the role well. The potential to be both a scorer and guy who can really help out as a secondary ball handler bodes well for him being a versatile add for Hubert Davis and his staff in Chapel Hill."

The combo guard has flashed his versatility and potential all season long for Roselle, becoming one of the top players in this 2023 class. Just last week he was named to the midseason Nasmith watch list, honoring the top players in high school and he could find himself as a finalist by the end of year too.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound combo guard is ranked No. 14 overall, No. 3 guard and the No. 3 player in the state of New Jersey per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. But at this rate, Wilcher could find himself as a Top 10 recruit before he steps on campus in Chapel Hill.
